Polymer is officially live with Celo following their historic migration to an Ethereum Layer-2. This integration marks a significant milestone for both ecosystems and represents a powerful advancement in Celo's path towards scaling Ethereum for the real world.

‍To drive real-world impact across payments, savings, credit, and commerce, Polymer brings instant, plug-and-play interoperability—and the growing ecosystem of apps building on it—directly to Celo’s developers and users.

A New Chapter for Celo

Celo recently completed its transition from an EVM-compatible L1 to an Ethereum Layer 2, leveraging OP Stack and EigenDA. This move preserves Celo's core differentiators – including one-block finality, low transaction fees, mobile optimization, and fee abstraction – while gaining the security and network effects of the Ethereum ecosystem.

With over 1,000+ projects, 18 stablecoins, 12M total active addresses, and 730M+ transactions, Celo brings its real-world adoption and experience to the Ethereum L2 landscape.

Going Beyond Cross-Chain Messaging

Traditional cross-chain messaging protocols were designed for L1-L1 communication, focusing on sending small message packets between fundamentally different systems. While functional, these solutions introduce significant limitations for rollups – particularly in performance, latency, and developer experience.

Polymer represents a paradigm shift in interoperability for the L2 ecosystem. Rather than relying on manual message passing, developers on Celo can use the Prove API and request state proofs to create a live feed of rollup information that applications can access and verify in real-time.

Why This Integration Matters

Polymer’s integration with Celo brings several key benefits to Celo developers:

  1. Near-Instant Verification: By proving state rather than passing messages, applications can access and verify information across rollups with dramatically reduced latency.

  2. Developer Freedom: Focus on building apps. Leverage the Prove API and build multichain applications directly from Celo, without needing to change or update smart contracts.

  3. Access to All of Ethereum: Polymer’s unique connect-once infra allows Celo to access all Ethereum chains live on Polymer without any extra developer overheads.

  4. Gas Efficiency: Polymer’s proof-based architecture significantly reduces gas costs for cross-rollup interactions.

Build Real-World Apps, Not Interop

As the Celo community embraces their new identity as an L2, Polymer is proud to provide the interoperability layer that will help Celo applications and users tap into the wider Ethereum ecosystem – with a developer experience that is as simple as making an API call. Applications can quickly verify and validate any action on any ETH L2, bringing faster cross-chain interactions to Celo and beyond.
